Lets be honest social media has ruined the family unit, lazy parents who would rather sit their kids in front of a screen and drink and smoke selfish self obsessed idiots
It wasn't social media that killed your sister, she obviously wanted to harm herself and suicide talk is everywhere, no one made her look it up!!! Parents need to look at their own failings!!!!!
Where were her parents!!? My kids are monitored and have locks on their phones as do most of their friends!! Stop trying to blame other sources for your own failings!! Someone wants to truly kill themselves they will do it, she looked up suicide online no one made her do it!! Suicide talk isn't just online, it is everywhere if you go out of your way to look for it!!! Could she not go to her parents or family to talk?? Doesn't say much for them plus I would notice if my kids were low or acting withdrawn!!!
The only place you can get that idea is from social media is a ridiculous take people have been killing themselves for far longer than social media has existed
No one committed suicide before social media. I did not know that.
The home dynamic is absolutely at fault as well we have to admit at least that here unfortunately people don't to accept that bit and the doctor could have caught it
The family are just lashing out and looking for someone to blame, they should be looking inwards instead of trying to restrict the freedoms of other people.
Environmental issues, mental health challenges, family relationships, and experiences of abuse have long impacted young people, predating the advent of social media. Although social media has unequivocally increased the visibility and severity of these issues, their fundamental nature has persisted across multiple generations.
the problem that a lot of people have is they fail to look at the bigger picture. this is one of few cases that happen where a kid has underlying mental health issues and the content they consume on social media only perpetuates it. however, this does NOT mean in any way that social media should be blanket banned. social media has a lot of benefits that people ignore because the news puts out the bad stuff about it to 1) get more sales and 2) further portray the idea that social media is inherently bad for kids and needs to be banned.

the reason for the ban is not to protect kids like blake. it is to control the mass of young kids growing up in a society where radicalisation is rampant across not just the uk, but the entire world. as a country, we need to be showing kids the full picture, and a social media ban would mean kids cannot see new perspectives on issues they, their parents, their friends, their relatives and everyone else not part of the 1% face. regulation on social media is a good idea, but it needs to be used with the right intentions in mind. protecting kids who are suffering like blake should be a priority, its just that the government is using these kids' deaths as reasoning for an action that will only descend us further into authoritarianism.

please, if you care about the younger generation, call for social media to be regulated against harmful content, not blanket banned. do the right thing.
I blame the parents don't give them a phone or access to social media .need a law to say no phones or social media untill the age of 18 .if her sister saw what she was doing why didn't she do something about it ?
If burnham wants to do so good ban social media right across the uk or 🤬 off
People don't just go kill themselves because other people on the internet have done it. Suicide is not a "trend" that you should be worried about your kids "following". If you're actually worried about them, get them some real help like counseling or therapy. Show them that you care.
Children are already an oppressed class, you don't need to revoke one of the few freedoms they have (access to the internet).
Spend time with your kids when eating and leave your damn phone this is to adults. Parenting sucks nowadays… and then blame their children when you didn’t educated them or listened to them because you were doomscrolling with them at the dinner table instead of bonding and building trust
"The only place you can get that idea is from social media" is a ridiculous take. People have been killing themselves for far longer than social media has existed
Its a mental health problem not a social media one ,, in my teens we were listening to heavy metal music that had all sorts of negative messages 🤷♀️ either one thing or another the root causes aren't being addressed...
Give phone just to call and cancel all social media for kids and adults
This society is becoming really stupid!!
SET PARENTAL CONTROLS ON YOUR KIDS' ACCOUNTS
People should be educated about the internet.
That would be good for every aspect of society.
Wow some Much like the 90 tobacco cie 🚭📵
God bless ❤
Pornography should be in the same category as heroine
You cant use a sample of one to make decisions. Things are more complex you have to do a legitimate cost benefit and risk analysis. Could we enlighten people rather than pander to ignorance please.
Children can not drink alcohol and can not drive cars and can not smoke and can not have pornoraphy and can not watch some movies and can not have access to murderes or suicide contents as ever and for ever. Let's do rhe right thing to do at the same time we share the tears and regrets and sadness in this BBC news video.
