Chinese FM Wang Yi meets candidate for next UN secretary-general Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Guyana's permanent representative to the United Nations and a candidate for the next UN secretary-general, in Beijing on Monday.

Marking 55 years since the restoration of China's lawful seat at the UN, Wang Yi said China will continue to contribute to world peace, global development and the international order.

Rodrigues-Birkett said multilateralism is not optional but essential for the international community. She expressed support for UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and said she would uphold the one-China principle.
