Singapore to review 2030 recycling target, seeks to extend lifespan of Pulau Semakau landfill

Singapore will review its goal of achieving an overall recycling rate of 70% by 2030. The move will take stock of progress made since the Zero Waste Masterplan was launched in 2019 and explore new ways to improve recycling outcomes. Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, Janil Puthucheary, announced the review. He cited ongoing challenges facing the recycling sector. The review will begin in the coming months and is expected to conclude next year. A key part of the exercise will examine how Singapore can recover cleaner, less contaminated recyclables.
