British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has used a major speech in London to reassert his authority after Labour's worst local election defeat last week.
He acknowledged growing frustration with his government's handling of the cost-of-living crisis and struggling public services, but offered few new policies.
Even as he spoke, pressure mounted from within his own party, with Labour MPs openly calling for his resignation and urging the party to allow Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to stand in a by-election.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting is also seen as a potential challenger.
Al Jazeera's Milena Veselinovic reports from London.
