Andy Burnham enters Labour leadership race

Labour lawmaker, Andy Burnham, says he will enter the race to replace Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, hours after Starmer announced his resignation.


Burnham, a former cabinet minister and current Mayor of Greater Manchester, becomes one of the first senior Labour figures to declare his candidacy.

In his farewell speech, Starmer highlighted his government's achievements, including strengthening the economy, investing in infrastructure and defence, and improving workers' and renters' rights.

He also said he had rebuilt the Labour Party and led it to a landslide election victory.
