One of Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital's leading medics, Professor Adam Mahomed, is hanging up his stethoscope, in frustration over what he says is a dysfunctional state of one of Gauteng's key medical institutions.
In a hard-hitting interview with the Sunday Times over the weekend, Prof. Mahomed said that the hospital, which caught fire in 2022, remained totally dysfunctional because of what he calls the BS of politics.
His resignation comes hot off the heels of a damning Public Protector report into Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, and amid ongoing concerns around governance, management, and financial oversight at the facility.
To discuss the hospital's response and the steps taken so far, we are joined by the Head of Internal Medicine at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Dr Adam Mohammed.
